On Tuesday this week, we proudly witnessed the official launch of this pictorial weather book by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Hieronymus E. Joya. This unique publication bridges modern climate education with the rich indigenous knowledge of the Samburu people — who, for generations, have interpreted clouds, winds, stars, animal behavior, and the changing landscape to predict rainfall and seasons. Today, this book strengthens that wisdom, offering a powerful visual tool that enhances climate awareness, supports community preparedness, and inspires responsible stewardship of creation.

As climate patterns continue to shift and seasons become less predictable, this book arrives at a critical moment for our communities. For many years, elders and pastoralists in Samburu have relied on the movement of clouds, the colour of the sky, the behaviour of livestock and wildlife, and even the flowering of certain plants to foresee rains and droughts. By combining this treasured indigenous knowledge with clear photographic guidance, this book empowers both young learners and adults to recognize weather signs, strengthen early-warning understanding, and adapt wisely to the realities of climate change. It is not only a learning resource — it is a bridge between tradition and innovation, past and future
